The exhibition will take place in Kiev, Ukraine, USSR, October 2 -October 23, 1988. Nine Soviet and five American artists will spend several days prior to the opening, together creating the exhibition environment.

METHOD OF OUTREACH

A promotional flyer was distributed throughout the United States by mail to over 350 art schools, University Graduate Art Schools, Museums and Galleries. Information was distributed by networking between artists and personal contacts. News releases were sent to six major art publications. News releases were sent to major newspapers with circulation over 400,000 and the Associated Press Wire Service.

METHOD OF SELECTING ARTISTS

The artists were requested to submit slides of their work to be juried by arts associates of Global Concepts and John Tuska. Faculty member of the University of Kentucky, Art Department, Lexington, Kentucky.

TRIP ITINERARY

The five artists will be the guests of the Center for Contemporary Art in Kiev while they are in the USSR. The projected schedule for the artists includes arrival in Moscow on September 28, 1988; travel to Kiev on September 29. They will be in Kiev for pre-opening activities and the opening of the exhibit on October 2. After the opening the artists will go to Yalta, a resort city on the Black Sea, for three days. They will return to Moscow on October 6 and have until October 8 to visit Moscow.

TRAVELING  EXHIBIT ITINERARY

The artwork chosen for the exhibition will tour the following cities in the USSR for six months: Tanio, Moscow, Feodosev, Valdivostok and Leningrad. The artwork will then be returned to the artists.

Julie E. Brent
Global Concepts Associate

Julie Brent is co-director of the Center for Soviet-American Initiatives, a non-profit organization in Lexington, Kentucky that promotes cultural and educational ties between Soviets and Americans. Julie is a graphic artist, an educator of holistic health methods and a yoga teacher. She has owned an art gallery and received her Masters degree in Fine Arts and Education from the University of Kentucky with a focus on anthropology and photography. Julie is also the USA Exhibition Coordinator/Curator for SOVIART, the Contemporary Art Exhibition of Soviet and American Artists. John Tuska, Juror

Tuska was a professor of Art at the University of Kentucky , Lexington, Kentucky. He was a prolific artist working in depth in several media. His credentials: MFA from New York College of Ceramics, Alfred. NY.: documented in the Archives of American Artists in the George Pompidou Center, Paris, France and at the Smithsonian Institute, Washington, D.C. His work has been exhibited at Museums and Galleries in Kentucky, New York, Ohio, Indiana. Iowa, Tennessee, Kansas, Georgia, Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, North Carolina. Florida. West Virginia, Alabama. California. Washington D.C., Louisiana. Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. He worked and studied at the Bronze Foundries of Rome, Italy. Alex Grizenko, President
Global Concepts Soviet American Business Alliance

Alex Grizenko has long held a belief that the entrepreneur is a powerful change agent in society. This has drawn him throughout his career to the intricacies and challenges of new ventures and new markets. Prior to his involvement in international trade, he has owned and/or managed several diversified business, including an industrial business brokerage firm, a computer software company that specialized in automating occupational health service in major US corporations and an association of medical clinics.

A first generation Canadian whose grandparents came from Moscow and Stavropol, Alex is fluent in the Russian language and has a solid understanding of Russian culture. He received a B.Sc in Psychology from McGill University and a Master in Health Administration from Duke University. (Alex now is the president of www.lucentdiamonds.com)
